Chopin’s strong use of chromaticism in many of his works, especially evident in his mazurkas, no doubt helps us embrace this idea of color, yet there’s probably more to it than that.

By 1818, Chopin was performing in elegant salons and writing his own compositions, including the Polonaise in G Minor. It was this rich and varied folk mixture which Domenico Scarlatti would later explore and exploit with such flare and enthusiasm. I think it would mix well with a Bloody Mary or other non-sweet drink. He was buried in the Père-Lachaise cemetery in Paris.

By the age of 9 he was already seen as a prodigy and was playing piano in concert halls. The Etudes are excellent pieces as well: very challenging but rewarding. His position came with many fringe benefits. Smoothing the deliberate, uniform hopping and stamping of the gawky Lndler into a graceful, rotating, gliding, stylized form, the waltz took Vienna by storm in the 1770s to mixed reaction. He had three sisters and was very connected to his mother, so later George Sand bitterly said for him that his mother was his only true love.1-3 The great majority of Chopin's compositions were written for the piano as a solo instrument.

Pauline Viardot remarked cynically that "all the grand Parisian ladies considered it de rigueur to faint in his room." The reader will soon become totally immersed in the story. Bach’s compositions explored the many mathematical complexities of musical form and those of Beethoven reflected that composer’s views on the concept of the hero and the brotherhood of Man. Is it possible that Chopin heard the Balfe song performed and simply recalled it imperfectly?

Mendelssohn Wagner Tchaikovsky Chopin Frederic Chopin b.1810 d.1849 Chopin was another artist that knew from the get-go that he would be a composer. No composer before or since has made a more extensive contribution to the living keyboard repertory.
